FAQ's

I don't have any experience - is that ok?

Yes! I encourage and thoroughly enjoy teaching complete beginners. Beginner DJ lessons are tailored so you can start learning with all the tools and skills I've learned through many years of trial and error! You don't need any knowledge or experience to start DJing, although a musical background can be beneficial.

I'm a beginner - should I start with digital or vinyl?

There's no right or wrong when it comes to beginning to DJ. I will say that it's much easier to transition from vinyl to digital compared to the other way around if you wanted to learn both, but each method has pros and cons. One factor to think about is cost - turntables, mixers and records can all be expensive, but I find vinyl mixing much more tactile, physical and satisfying than digital. It's up to you! You can always try both and see which one you like more.

Why is vinyl tutoring more costly?

Vinyl mixing is a specific skill that is not available to everyone, I have spent years practicing and perfecting my skills. As mentioned above, turntables, needles and records are expensive and are very easily damaged, especially if you're a beginner. The increased cost of the lessons means that I'd be able to cover any damage caused to my equipment if this was to occur.

Can you come to me for lessons?

Generally, I prefer to teach using my own equipment. This means I can give the best advice and teaching possible as I know it inside-out. Without prior experience or knowledge of other specific set ups it would be difficult for me to teach to the same standard, however this is not always the case. It could be possible for me to teach elsewhere on a case-by-case basis for whatever reason this may be. Please contact me directly if this applies to you.

How much do DJ lessons cost in Bristol

How long does it take to learn DJing

DJing is a skill that you can always improve on, even I'm still learning new techniques and skills after more than 6 years! For a complete beginner, I'd say it would take at least 6 lessons to learn the basics.

Can I learn to DJ without my own equipment?

Yes! I provide everything you need, including headphones. I do recommend, once you've decided that DJing is for you, to buy a basic set-up, as practicing at home is where you start to see massive improvements.

Can I learn vinyl DJing?

Yes! I teach both digital and vinyl DJing

Do you teach women and non-binary DJs?

Of course! I am a specialist in teaching women and non-binary people, and I can give some insight into my personal experiences in the industry too.

Do I need my own equipment?

No - headphones are provided and included in all lesson prices. For vinyl DJ lessons, needles are also provided, with a refundable deposit required.
